Medacta includes among all the MRI-based 3D printed patient-specific solutions also a Pin Positioning System.
MyKnee PPS is a set of 3D printed patient-specific guides that allow accurate and reproducible implant placement based on a pre-operative 3D plan, that has been created from the MRI images of the patient’s knee.
MyKnee PPS allows a straight forward surgical procedure providing high stability blocks due to their large contact surface.
Once the pins have been positioned through MyKnee PPS blocks on patient’s bone, the resections can be performed according to pre-operative planning, using either metal or GMK Efficiency cutting blocks.
MYKNEE PPS IS ALWAYS BASED ON THE MRI IMAGE OF THE PATIENT’S KNEE ANATOMY
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), used to visualize detailed internal structures, provides much greater contrast between the different soft tissues of the body than computed tomography (CT). Unlike CT, it uses no ionizing radiation, but uses a powerful magnetic field to align the nuclear magnetization of (usually) hydrogen atoms in water in the body. Radio frequency (RF) fields are used to systematically alter the alignment of this magnetization, causing the hydrogen nuclei to produce a rotating magnetic field, detectable by the scanner
